What Tapad Collects
Tapad is a cross-device identity graph platform now owned by Experian. It specializes in connecting consumer identities across devices and platforms — linking your phone, tablet, laptop, smart TV, and other devices into a unified identity profile. Tapad collects device identifiers (cookies, mobile advertising IDs), IP addresses, and uses probabilistic modeling to link your online behavior across multiple devices. They serve the advertising technology ecosystem, providing cross-device targeting data to brands and ad networks. Unlike traditional data brokers that collect names and addresses, Tapad primarily holds device-level identifiers rather than directly identifiable personal information.
How to Remove Yourself
Step 1: Go to the Tapad Consent Portal
Navigate to https://crportal.tapad.com — Tapad's official consumer consent and opt-out portal. You can also access this via the OPT OUT button at tapad.com/privacy.
Step 2: Choose Your Request Type
Tapad offers three request types:
- Opt-Out — Stop cross-device tracking (no certification form required; browser/IP automatically identified)
- Access — Request data Tapad holds about you
- Deletion — Request deletion of your data
Step 3: Complete the Appropriate Request
For Browser-based Opt-Out: Simply visiting the portal with JavaScript enabled sets an opt-out flag for your current browser/device.
For Access/Deletion: Provide your email address and/or Cookie ID / Mobile Advertising ID to identify your records. No name, phone, address, SSN, or government ID required — Tapad explicitly states they do not collect these.
Step 4: Understand Opt-Out Durations
- IP address opt-out: Lasts 12 months
- Cookie/MAID opt-out: Lasts indefinitely — but you must not clear cookies or reset your MAID
Important Notes
- No personal data required — Tapad explicitly states they do not collect name, phone, address, or SSN. The opt-out is device/cookie-based.
- Deletion completes within 1 week per Tapad's stated timeline.
- Opted-out IDs are perpetuity-flagged — related IDs are also opted out for 60 days.
- Cookie opt-out resets if you clear cookies — bookmark the opt-out page to re-opt easily.
- Data does NOT repopulate once opted out — Tapad maintains the flag indefinitely for cookie/MAID-based opt-outs.
