How to Remove Yourself from LexisNexis

Data collected: name, address, SSN (partial or full), court records, criminal records, news articles, business affiliations, regulatory filings, professional licenses, property ownership. Last verified: Mon Mar 30 2026 19:00:00 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)

What LexisNexis Collects

LexisNexis is one of the largest legal and business information providers in the world, used extensively by law firms, corporations, government agencies, and journalists. They aggregate court records, criminal records, news articles, regulatory filings, property ownership data, business affiliations, professional licenses, and personal identifying information from public and proprietary sources. LexisNexis holds significantly more sensitive legal and financial data than typical consumer-facing people search sites. They also maintain identity verification and risk assessment products used by banks and employers. Their opt-out primarily targets their consumer-facing people search products, not their B2B legal/business databases.

How to Remove Yourself

Step 1: Go to the LexisNexis Opt-Out Portal

Navigate to https://optout.lexisnexis.com/ — the official LexisNexis consumer opt-out page.

Step 2: Select Your Reason for Opting Out

The form requires you to select a reason from the following options:

  • I do not want my information shared
  • I am a victim of identity theft
  • I am at risk of physical harm
  • I am a public/elected official
  • I am a law enforcement officer
  • I am a judicial officer
  • Other

Select the reason that best applies to your situation.

Step 3: Provide Identifying Information

LexisNexis recommends providing your SSN (optional but recommended for precise identification), addresses you have lived at, and your communication preferences. The more accurate your information, the better your chances of complete removal.

Step 4: Submit Supporting Documentation

Depending on your reason selected, you may be required to submit supporting documentation via attachment, fax, or postal mail. For example, identity theft victims may need to provide an FTC affidavit.

Step 5: Check for Additional Processing

For Direct Marketing Opt-Out specifically (marketing list removal), also visit https://lexisnexis.com/privacy/directmarketingopt-out.aspx.

Important Notes

  • SSN is optional but recommended for precise identification — without it, LexisNexis may not be able to identify and remove all records associated with you.
  • Supporting documentation may be required depending on your reason — this adds processing time.
  • Opting out may affect identity/insurance verification systems — LexisNexis provides identity verification services to banks and employers. Opting out of their people search does not affect this B2B service.
  • Data does NOT repopulate once properly removed from LexisNexis consumer products.
  • Direct Marketing Opt-Out is separate from the main opt-out portal — both should be submitted for comprehensive coverage.
  • LexisNexis is primarily a B2B legal/business tool — consumer exposure is typically limited to publicly available court and property records.
