While marketed as a genealogy tool, it functions as a people search broker that can expose your personal details, family relationships, and address history to anyone with an internet connection. FamilyTreeNow is linked to TruePeopleSearch.com and shares a data ecosystem with several other people search sites.
How to Remove Yourself
Step 1: Go to the FamilyTreeNow Opt-Out Page
Navigate directly to https://www.familytreenow.com/optout — FamilyTreeNow's dedicated opt-out form.
Step 2: Fill Out the Initial Form
Enter the following information:
- First name (required)
- Middle name (optional but recommended for accuracy)
- Last name (required)
- Email address (required)
- Check the authorization checkbox confirming you are submitting your own request
Click "Begin Privacy Request" to proceed.
Step 3: Verify Your Email
FamilyTreeNow will send a verification email to the address you provided. Open the email and click the verification link. Note: the link expires in 24 hours.
Step 4: Complete the Full Opt-Out
After clicking the verification link, you will be directed to the second part of the opt-out process. Complete any additional fields required and submit to finalize your removal.
Step 5: Confirm Removal
Your data should be removed within 3 days of completing the opt-out process.
Important Notes
- Email verification is required — the opt-out does not process without clicking the confirmation link.
- Verification link expires in 24 hours — complete the process promptly.
- Data repopulates — FamilyTreeNow continuously refreshes data from public sources, so re-submitting periodically is necessary.
- Authorized agents can submit opt-outs on behalf of others using the same form.
- FamilyTreeNow also has a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link at /do-not-sell for CCPA-style rights.
