How to Remove Yourself from Experian

Data collected: name, address, email, phone, demographic attributes, financial behaviors, purchase intent data, marketing response data. Last verified: Mon Mar 30 2026 19:00:00 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)

What Experian Collects

Experian is one of the three major US credit bureaus, but the Experian marketing lists opt-out specifically addresses Experian's consumer marketing data products — not your credit report. Experian's marketing division collects and sells consumer data including your name, address, email, phone number, demographic attributes, financial behaviors, purchase intent signals, and marketing campaign response data. This data fuels direct mail, telemarketing, and digital advertising campaigns by Experian's client brands. This opt-out does NOT affect your credit report, credit score, or any credit-related data Experian holds — those are governed by the FCRA.

How to Remove Yourself

Step 1: Go to Experian's Opt-Out Page

Navigate to https://www.experian.com/privacy/opting_out — Experian's main consumer opt-out hub.

Step 2: Choose Your Opt-Out Type

Experian offers multiple opt-out mechanisms depending on what you want to stop:

  • Direct Mail: Email optout@experian.com with your name and postal address, or send by postal mail, or call 1-833-210-4615
  • Email Marketing: Visit experian.com/privacy/opting_out_email for email marketing specifically
  • Telemarketing: Call 1-866-578-5409
  • Prescreened Credit/Insurance Offers: Visit optoutprescreen.com or call 1-888-567-8688 (5-year or permanent)
  • Targeted Advertising: Visit consumerprivacy.experian.com for targeted/digital advertising opt-out
  • General Marketing Data: Use the form at experian.com/privacy/opting_out

Step 3: Provide Your Information

Depending on the method chosen, provide your full name and postal address. No email verification is required for postal/phone opt-outs.

Step 4: Confirm and Record Your Opt-Out

Experian will process your request. Keep a copy of your submission (screenshot or email confirmation) as proof.

Important Notes

  • This opt-out does NOT affect your credit report — credit report data cannot be removed via privacy opt-outs.
  • Experian repopulates data — because Experian continuously collects new consumer data from marketing partners, your information may reappear over time. Annual re-submission is recommended.
  • Prescreened offer opt-out (optoutprescreen.com) is separate and specifically targets credit/insurance pre-approval mailings.
  • The direct marketing services opt-out at experianmarketingservices.digital/OptOut is UK-focused (.co.uk domain) — US consumers should use email/postal/phone.
  • California and other state residents may have additional rights via the CCPA-style privacy portal at consumerprivacy.experian.com.
