How to Remove Yourself from Equifax

Data collected: name, address, phone, credit account history (marketing attributes), demographic data, household information. Last verified: Mon Mar 30 2026 19:00:00 GMT-0500 (Central Daylight Time)

What Equifax Collects

Equifax is one of the three major US credit bureaus (alongside Experian and TransUnion), but the Equifax marketing lists opt-out specifically targets Equifax's marketing data products β€” not your credit report. Equifax's marketing division collects and sells consumer data including your name, address, phone number, demographic attributes, household information, and derived marketing attributes from credit account patterns. This data is used by marketers for direct mail, telemarketing, and prescreened credit offers. This opt-out does NOT affect your credit report or credit score β€” those are governed by the FCRA, not privacy law.

How to Remove Yourself

Step 1: Go to the Equifax Privacy Hub

Navigate to https://www.equifax.com/privacy/privacy-statement/ β€” this is Equifax's central privacy page for consumer requests.

Step 2: Access the myPrivacy Portal

Click through to myprivacy.equifax.com to submit verifiable requests, opt-out of data sales, or limit use of your personal information in Equifax marketing products.

Step 3: Submit Your Opt-Out Request

Fill out the form with your name, address, and phone number for verification. Select the type of request β€” opt-out of sale or limit use of your data in marketing.

Step 4: Opt Out of Prescreened Credit Offers

For prescreened credit and insurance offers specifically, also visit optoutprescreen.com or call 1-888-567-8688. You can choose a 5-year opt-out or a permanent opt-out.

Alternative: Call Equifax

Call 866-295-6801 (Mon–Sat) to submit your request by phone.

Important Notes

  • This opt-out does NOT affect your credit report β€” credit report data cannot be opted out under privacy law, only under FCRA processes.
  • Equifax's 2017 data breach exposed 147 million people's data β€” if you were affected, your data may have been exposed regardless of this opt-out.
  • Marketing emails specifically: visit equifax.com/personal/help/article-list/-/h/a/opt-out-equifax-marketing-mails/ for targeted email marketing opt-out.
  • Data does NOT repopulate once properly removed from Equifax marketing lists β€” this is a one-time removal for that specific data set.
  • Prescreened offer opt-out (optoutprescreen.com) is separate from Equifax's general marketing list opt-out and specifically stops credit/insurance pre-approval offers.
